MOSCOW – Russia has been busy on the African continent in recent years. Russian officials acknowledged Russians were on board an Antonov An-72 transport which crashed last week in a remote Congolese forest.
There have also been reports of Russians killed in civlil war battles in Libya recently. And Russia has been making deals and spending money and making commitments all over Africa.

Alrosa has signed anagreement with Angola’s state-run diamond-mining company to develop joint projects and share information.
Alrosa and Endiama have committed to work together on research and exploration projects in Angola. The Russia-based miner will also provide training for Angolan specialists at its facilities.

Many African countries are looking for profitable business, investment and trade rather than development aid. Now Angola, a south-central Africa, has announced corporate plans to diversify its state business away from purchasing to full-fledged manufacturing of Russian military equipment for the southern African market, and possibly other regions in Africa – impeding realization of the Sustainable Development Goal 16 calling for peace and justice.

Strengthening cooperation in trade, economy and culture, as well as current international and regional matters were top issues in talks between President Vladimir Putin of Russia and President João Lourenço of Angola at the Kremlin on April 4.
Striking a personal note, the Angolan leader, who completed his education in 1982 in Moscow, said: “Moscow then and now are two different cities. My congratulations – you have ensured progress and development for Russia and the Russian people.”

Angola continuará a contar com o apoio da Rússia na resolução de conflitos de vária natureza, como o combate ao terrorismo transnacional, narcotráfico e branqueamento de capitais, bem como a protecção do ambiente, dos direitos humanos e questões migratórias, afirmou nesta quarta-feira, em Moscovo, o Presidente da República, João Lourenço.
Este posicionamento foi manifestado pelo Chefe de Estado angolano quando discursava na sessão especial do parlamento russo, no quadro da visita de Estado àquele país europeu.
